Mix & Match Bundles give customers flexibility to build their own bundle by choosing products from a predefined selection. This is ideal for variety packs, samplers, and customizable bundles.

What is a Mix & Match Bundle?

A Mix & Match Bundle lets customers select a specific quantity of products from a larger pool of options. You define which products are available and how many the customer must choose to receive the bundle discount. Example: “Choose any 5 teas for $25” or “Build your own 6-pack: Pick 6 protein bars from our selection”

When to use Mix & Match Bundles

Mix & Match Bundles work best for:
  • Variety packs: Letting customers sample different flavors, colors, or variants
  • Samplers: Try-before-committing bundles
  • Customizable sets: Giving customers control over their selection
  • Discovery bundles: Encouraging trial of multiple products

The widget displays:
  • “Build your own bundle: Choose X from these products”
  • Grid of available products with images
  • Selection interface (customers click to add/remove products)
  • Running count (e.g., “3 of 5 selected”)
  • Total price with discount
  • “Add to cart” button (enabled when quantity requirement is met)

  • Individual line items for their chosen products
  • Discount line item if using percentage discount
  • Bundle pricing applied

Best practices

Include at least 6-8 products in your pool so customers feel they have real choice. Too few options defeats the purpose.
If products have widely different prices, use percentage discounts rather than fixed bundle pricing. This prevents customers from gaming the system by choosing only expensive items.
Make the requirement obvious: “Choose exactly 5” or “Pick any 6”. Avoid ambiguous language.
For fixed bundle pricing, calculate based on your average product price. For percentage discounts, 15-25% typically works well.
Mix & Match works best within a category (all teas, all protein bars, all candles) rather than across disparate categories.

Troubleshooting

Widget not showing selection interface:
  • Verify Mix & Match bundle type is correctly set
  • Check that product pool has at least 3 products
  • Ensure products have available inventory
Customers confused about quantity:
  • Update bundle name to be explicit: “Choose exactly 5” instead of “5-Pack”
  • Use the style customization to make quantity requirement prominent
Mix & Match Bundles often have higher engagement than fixed bundles because customers enjoy the customization. Track which products are most frequently chosen to inform future merchandising decisions.
